Cebu Hopping Tour with a Child – A Story of Snorkeling at Hilutungan
Let me share a story about a family’s Cebu hopping tour with their child.
A family of three set off on their adventure, but unfortunately, it wasn’t an easy day due to the conditions.

We departed directly from the My Cebu Trip office and arrived at Nalusuan Island.
As seen in the photos, the Cebu sky was quite overcast.
In fact, due to poor weather conditions, hopping tours had been cancelled for several days prior. Although the sea route finally opened up after a few days, the weather hadn’t quite returned to normal yet.

The shallow waters behind Nalusuan Island reveal that it is actually an artificial island. Depending on the tide, the water level ranges from an adult’s waist to their ankles.

This area features a sandbar formed by the currents, making it a great spot for children to play.

After exploring the island, we entered the Nalusuan Marine Sanctuary, but it was a frustrating day with poor visibility.
The aftermath of the bad weather was still lingering.

There was a lot of floating debris and the water was murky…
This spot is usually the best for snorkeling with children, but today it was truly a disappointment. It looks like the ocean needs another 2–3 days to return to its pristine state.
Leaving Nalusuan behind, we moved to the Hilutungan Marine Sanctuary.
Lunch was served on board during the transit, featuring a Korean-style bento box freshly prepared by My Cebu Trip.

We were quite disappointed with Nalusuan, but Hilutungan was a different story.

Even though the two islands aren’t very far apart, the water conditions were completely different.
The child was having a blast watching the fish at the Hilutungan Marine Sanctuary.

However, you can see the snorkeling mask in the mother’s hand.

The child is heading up to the Bangka (boat) to take a rest.
Hilutungan Marine Sanctuary is such a prime spot that it was the first area near Mactan to be designated as a marine park.
However, compared to Nalusuan, the water is deeper and there are currents, which can be a bit draining for young children or seniors.
But there is no need to worry—if you feel tired, you can simply go back up to the Bangka and relax.

Once the child went up to the boat to rest, the parents began their snorkeling in earnest.

They enjoyed a leisurely time feeding the fish and exploring the Hilutungan point around the boat.
After snorkeling at Hilutungan, the tour continues with line fishing.
We caught some very tiny fish… so tiny that it’s a bit difficult to upload the photos here.
Please keep in mind that the line fishing activity is more about the “experience” rather than serious fishing.

After fishing, we returned to the pier, concluding the day’s hopping tour.
