Rough Waves vs. Calm Waters: A Real Cebu Island Hopping Review (Nalusuan & Hilutungan

Hello from MyCebuTrip! 🏝️
Today, we want to show you the “two faces” of the Cebu ocean. Many travelers expect the sea to be always calm and glassy, but ocean conditions can change dramatically depending on the location and weather.

We visited our signature course, Nalusuan and Hilutungan Island Marine Sanctuaries. Let’s take a look at our honest review of how different these two spots were on the same day!

1. First Stop: The Scenic ‘Nalusuan Island & Marine Sanctuary’

Our tour started at Nalusuan Island. The long wooden bridge, the signature landmark of this island, is stunning as always. Walking on this pier is the perfect time for a photo op!

Time to jump in! On this particular day, the waves at Nalusuan were a bit rougher than usual due to the wind. The visibility was slightly lower because of the currents, but feeding the fish was still a lot of fun. We enjoyed a dynamic snorkeling session with schools of tropical fish dancing around us.

2. Second Stop: The Peaceful ‘Hilutungan Marine Sanctuary’

After a somewhat adventurous swim at Nalusuan, we moved to our second spot, Hilutungan Marine Sanctuary. And guess what? It was like entering a different world. The water here was incredibly calm and crystal clear.

Look at this clarity! ✨ Without the waves, visibility was perfect. We could see all the way to the sandy bottom. It was the perfect time to just float and enjoy the underwater sunlight.

Relaxing and napping on a floating tube at Hilutungan

It was so peaceful that you could literally take a nap on a floating tube. 😴 This was the ultimate relaxation moment that made us completely forget about the rough waves earlier.

After recharging with a swim, we enjoyed a refreshing boat ride to our final activity.

3. Final Activity: Traditional ‘Handline Fishing’

You can’t say you’ve done island hopping without trying fishing! After snorkeling, we gathered on the boat for some fun handline fishing.
