Typhoon Bualoi (Opong) to Impact Cebu from September 25th – Travel Advisory
Typhoon No. 20, Bualoi, has formed in the waters east of the Philippines and is expected to have a significant impact on Cebu. The local name assigned by the Philippines is OPONG.

As shown in the image above, Typhoon Bualoi is forecast to cut across the Philippines from east to west. Forecasters predict it will not intensify into a super typhoon, as it formed relatively close to the Philippine landmass, is moving at a steady pace, and the sea surface was recently disturbed by Typhoon No. 18, Ragasa.
Nevertheless, it is expected to strengthen into a medium-sized typhoon, and significant damage in the Philippines is still anticipated.
The storm is expected to have its greatest impact on Cebu on September 25th and 26th.
Travelers should take note of the following:
- Even if bangka (local outrigger boat) services are operating on the morning of the 25th, sea conditions are expected to worsen in the afternoon, making departures unlikely.
- While we will have more certainty tomorrow, it is highly probable that marine activities such as island hopping and fun diving will be suspended on the 25th and 26th.
- Given the typhoon’s east-to-west trajectory across the region, the Oslob whale shark tour is also likely to be unavailable.
We strongly advise all tourists currently in Cebu or scheduled to arrive soon to pay close attention to weather updates and take all necessary precautions.
