Cebu Rainy Season 2026: PAGASA Announces Official Onset of Habagat
PAGASA, the Philippine atmospheric authority, has officially announced that the 2026 rainy season in the Philippines commenced on May 30th.

With the onset of the rainy season, checking the Cebu weather forecast from June onwards will likely show “thunderstorms” quite frequently. However, this is mainly due to an increase in sudden, short-lived squalls (passing showers). Therefore, you can safely plan and enjoy your trip to Cebu without worrying too much.
For reference, the rainy season corresponds to the Southwest Monsoon season, locally known in the Philippines as “Habagat.” During this period, winds begin blowing from the southwest, presenting a distinctly different climate pattern compared to the dry season.
As the rainy season begins, the local weather actually becomes much more bearable. The intermittent downpours temporarily cool down the intense tropical heat, bringing a bit of relief and comfort that you don’t get during the peak dry season.
Since these sudden showers occur frequently, it is highly recommended to pack appropriate clothing when traveling to Cebu. Most importantly, stepping into a well-airconditioned indoor space right after getting soaked by the rain can easily cause you to catch a cold or alter your physical condition. Families traveling with young children should keep this extra health tip in mind!
