Typhoon Bavi Approaches the Philippines – Cebu on Alert for Strong Winds July 9–10
Typhoon Bavi (international name), the 9th tropical cyclone of the season, has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). Once a storm enters the PAR, PAGASA assigns it a local name — in this case, “Inday.”

Bavi fortunately weakened one category down from super typhoon strength before entering the PAR. Based on its projected track, the typhoon is not expected to make landfall in the Philippines and is forecast to head toward Taiwan instead. However, given its considerable strength, the eastern Philippines still needs to stay on close watch for now.
Cebu lies at a safe distance from the typhoon’s path, but strong gusts are expected on July 9 and 10. With the stronger winds, noticeably higher swells are also expected in Cebu waters.
If you have sea-based activities planned on July 9 or 10 — including Cebu island hopping tours and other water sports — please follow the guidance of your local tour operator, as schedules may be adjusted for safety.
